2nd News Article Discussion Task

My article is about a black hole it has become more active. In this article they said that black holes are hungry. they grow bigger as they gobble up cosmic debris from nearby star. Anything that get to close can get sucked in. They are the remain of massive stars, scrunched up on themselves until they become infinitely dense. Anything that get to close get trapped by their power gravity, even light cannot escape once it passes a critical point. However, one black hole has recently made itself thoroughly conspicuous. After lying dormant for 26 years, it has begun emitting a series of bright cosmic burps.

Bibi presented about NASA finally took a perfect picture of Pluto. Bibi mentioned that NASA had send a spaceship since 2006. It took 9 years to reach Pluto and inside that spaceship NASA also use a part of PlayStation 1 to build this.

Peer review bias story

I wrote an article about how bad is tattoo really is and gave is\t to my classmate to analyze for bias.

They told me that I am wrong in many several ways:

1.Bias by story selection : I describe about people who have tattoos that they think they are going to be unique if they got one and I also mention that some place or some artist they don't use a high quality ink, and use an old needle.

2. Bias by spin : I said that tattoo makes people look like a criminal and maybe they are a criminal, but in fact they just love to decorate their body and somebody get a tattoo because they love it. Several people decide to get a tattoo because they love it. They just want to deference from others.

The Implicit Association Test VS the Political Compass Test

The Implicit Association help us to study implicit biases whereas the Political Compass Test is about seek people to identifying their general ideological perspective.

The Implicit Association Test is a flexible task designed to tap automatic associations between concepts (e.g., math and arts) and attributes (e.g., good or bad, male or female, self or other) and you can choose one of each side by tapping E is refer to left and I is refer to right.

The Political Compass Test give testers 6 pages of question, and we have to choose the answer on a scale from Strongly Agree to Strongly Disagree. It uses our choices to determine which ideological perspective we have.

I took Young-Old people test. My result point out that I have a little preference for young people compare to old people

In the Political Compass Test, I received results that placed me in the left Authoritarian but not too left just nearly the middle line.

Well, I never thought I would have a bias for Young and Old people. After I received a result I re-think that why this bias occurred to me, and then I realized that most of elderly people are quiet annoying, they always complain about everything even it's not a big deal. So I think this is a reason why I had this bias.

If I take an ideological perspective on my implicit bias, then I would believe that I am a left wing and I am a little authoritarian.
I'm not really sure how it's connect to each other. My ideology and my bias is has a little connection or no connection at all.

If you are interested in taking these these test just click "here" for the implicit association test and "here" for the political compass test.

1st News Article Discussion

For my first news article I have presented about Do trees communicate to others? Surprisingly the answer is yes. Forest ecologist Dr Suzanne Simard, from the University of British Colombia studies a type of communication networks in the ground between trees in North American forest. She said that the biggest oldest tree had more connections to other trees than smaller trees because the biggest one has more root system and she said when trees are attacked, they increase their defense against the invaders by upregulating their defense genes to make defense enzymes.

Oly presented an article about the elderly  couple lost in a desert for two weeks. She pointed that they were missing in part of Sandiego country. Her husband die because a serious condition.

Golf presented an article about the tornado attack. He pointed that it happened on 25may, most of Mexican people were injured and 13 people had been killed, 10 adults and 3 babies.

Cognitive bias is confusing as hell !

Last two weeks, I have read an article about cognitive bias with my group. If you want to read just click "Here".

I have chosen three biases in particular post-purchase rationalization, neglecting probability, and observational selection bias. When I read all of these three biases, I think post-purchase and neglecting probability is too simple and not quite interesting much than it should. Therefore, I would like to research on observational selection bias because I think it might appear in our real life but many people dose not realize that.

The article explains that observational selection bias appear when we recognize something around us more often because we have experienced. They have a few example in the article that explain how is this happen. One of those says when women become pregnant, they tend to notice that every single woman around them are pregnant too.

This situation is not really happen at all, it just what they think in their mind. It because our mind will allows to observe things that we are interested in more often than normal.

Anyway, it also occurred to me not just one, but many times and I believe that almost 100% of people in this world have face this before. I have noticed my own observational selection bias after I have purchased my first laptop. After that, two days later my friend just carried his laptop the same as mine. I though in my head that just I bought this laptop and this has influenced him to buy that stuff because he wanted to be cool like me. But no, not at all, after I have learned this observation selection bias, I extremely surprise that I never notice before.

In retrospect, Cognitive biases are confusing as hell! many people won't know this if they don't learn about this. These biases always happen in their life, everything they have done it is about the bias that control them to do things and they don't even know that . But why ? why biases always occur bur no one notice before ? . We are all a victim of the cognitive bias
